Projects in R
Ziele
The course is part of the Public Health Sciences Course Program and lays the foundation for the subsequent courses Basic Biotatistics in R, Introduction to Epidemiology and Study Design, Diagnostic Test Evaluation, and Linear and Logistic Regression Modelling in R. Together, these five courses cover central skills of the theme Core Methods in the Public Health Course Program.
At the end of this course, participants shall be able to:
- Organize their research projects in R, RStudio and GitHub following the principles of open science and reproducible research
- Create reproducible reports based on the fundamentals of modern data visualization
Inhalte
- Introduction to the programming language R
- Organize research projects in RStudio
- Prepare and visualize data using tidyverse
- Write reproducible reports using Markdown/Quarto
- Collaborate using GitHub
Arbeitsweise / Programm
Lectures in workshop style with interactive sessions. The learning outcomes will be assessed by publishing a reproducible report on GitHub.

Zielpublikum
This course targets PhD students, postdocs, clinicians, and public health practitioners who would like to acquire skills in the topics.
Besonderes
Students who are new to R and RStudio are expected to watch video tutorial “Introduction to R and RStudio" or similar introductory videos before the course start (links to recommended material will be provided three weeks before the course). Students have to bring their own laptops with a recently installed version of R, RStudio and GitHub. The course is offered once a year.
Anmelde- und Aufnahmeverfahren
A tertiary education degree is required. The program manager decides on the final admission. Priority is given to PhD students.
Application process: You are requested to enroll online. Seats will be allocated according to date of enrolment. Three weeks before the course/workshop at the latest, the administration will decide and inform about running or cancelling the course/workshop.

Registration fees are waived for PhD students of the University of Bern who commit to the whole course attendance. To avoid being invoiced, it is mandatory that you indicate your institute and the matriculation number upon registration for the course. Please note cancellation regulations below.
